User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_4) AppleWebKit/536.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1132.57 Safari/536.11
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open "About Firefox"
2. Enter Konami Code
Actual results:
Nothing
Expected results:
All hell should break loose, fireworks should be released and everybody should cheer over the astonishing image they would get in the "About Firefox", which should transform into "About Firepony" with Mozilla Firefox-adored original pony character:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151798505725022&set=a.145889545021.235126.14696440021&type=1
Also, an adequate music should be played,
perhaps in a form of embedded video?
My suggestion would be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd6e_ZfTyqI
As discussed here: http://twitter.theinfo.org/226366541766197248 we (me - @holek_ and @EpicLPR on Twitter) would like to propose a pony-related easter-egg for About Firefox window.
We believe that it will increase the "likeability" of Mozilla Firefox and will be greeted with open arms by always-growing brony community and also everyone who appreciates easter eggs (which pretty much includes everybody, right? ;)).

Perhaps an about:ponies? :)

You know this is our team mascot right? ;)

Yeah I could see this working out given how well received the Firefox Pony was on Facebook.
It would be awesome if it's possible to add them ;)
PS.: Yeah, I'm the one with the idea (as holek said in his ticket here) :)

I'm going to get permission from the artist to use the image. I believe it was on Deviant Art. I'll post when I've heard back.

Purely out of curiosity, let me see if I have the spec correct on this:
1) Create page about:ponies, which is some kind of kickass mindblowing pony-splosion page.
2) Insert code into the About Firefox dialog that waits for the Konami Code (henceforth referred to by me as the Ponami Code, for obvious reasons). Once the Ponami Code is detected, we open a tab to about:ponies.
So, two routes to pony-splosion: one via Ponami Code, and a more direct one via manually typing about:ponies into the URL bar.
The above is all relatively straight forward. The harder part is the pony-splosion. Beyond the DeviantArt image (assuming we get the permissions), what should this page look like?
There should be, as above said, Tombstones song in there if possible. You can also change it to any other, pony related music, but I think music will make the whole thing 20% cooler.
Maybe 2 links to our Twitter-Accounts (if possible) just to say "this two gave us the idea" to www.twitter.com/holek_ and www.twitter.com/epiclper
Crazy Ponies ;)
And: "#PONITIME" (it's a fun-hashtag created by me for twitter to share funny and usefull things about ponies)
Only some ideas, I don't know if Mike Poltyn can make you a "website pre-design" for what it should look like, I'm bad at this and he's a web-developer ;)
PS.: Sorry for my bad english, normaly I speak german :)

EpicLPer, your English is just fine :)
I think if we keep it simple it's much more likely to be accepted by the module owner and get into the browser. I can see people having issues with some of the things suggested. Trying to add a lot of graphics or music could get people worried about the how it would impact the size of the browser. If we just do one or two things, I think our chances will be better.
Mike, I wonder if it would be as simple as once someone inputs the ponami code (:)) the Firefox logo transforms into the Firepony on the about Firefox page?
Otherwise, if you want a page, I would suggest the Firepony and maybe something like:
Your Firefox is now 20% cooler.
In fact, that message could be on the About Firefox page as well.
Let me know what you think of this idea. Like I said, I think if we go for simple, our chances of getting it accepted are much higher.
Sounds fine :) I think I "overdid" it a little bit in my last comment ;)
Your idea sounds really good. But isn't it possible to upload the music on an FTP (as exapmle and with Tombstones permission) and then play the music over it? ;)

Having music being streamed is probably a bad idea, more and more ISPs are adding bandwidth caps, and if you just use say, Verizon 3/4G as your home internet, their limit is somewhere around 5GB a month, so that extra 20MB or so will begin to add up.

Ok. Yeah, I think the firepony will just be fine then :)

I agree.

Ok, we'll start with this - I'll just do a simple fading transition of the current Firefox logo with the Firepony after the Ponami Code is entered.

I still haven't heard back from the artist. I tried to contact him/her on DeviantArt.

Hey Mike,
Things have been on hold. Sorry about this. I think we may have to look into doing this another way as there are some issues with adapting the logo in the product. I'm still thinking about another way to make this happen.

May if you do this in the about:config site?
Or may if you entered the code in the about-windows that the windows should close itself and open again to reload the firefox pic?

But still pretty lovely one. And one that doesn't require extensive legal negotiations. :)

Why not just taking fancreations? It's completely save-made and no one ever can blame someone for it.

So, there are legal issues that prevent us from using the image suggested in the original post, but I don't think anyone would be too opposed to adding something fun when someone enters the Konami Code on the about screen… (Having said that, it's also not a high priority, so it's unlikely anyone will get to it any time soon. 🙂)
What ideas do you have for fun things we could do?

It would be great if I could play Conway's Game of Life.
